Answer by Dr Ben Lynch:
An increase in folate is like adding gas to a fire. The fire needs more wood in this situation if you want it to keep going. Folates drive many biochemical pathways which depend on many other nutrients – not just magnesium.
Folate increases blood cell formation which increases the requirements for electrolytes, iron, glutathione, minerals, and phospholipids.
This is why I often recommend the use of Optimal Electrolyte, Optimal Liposomal Glutathione Plus and Optimal Start prior to anyone taking any type of folate.
This is also why I recommend the use of Optimal Adrenal prior to folate supplementation as stress increases nutrient utilization which typically leads to folate side effects when it’s used prior to replenishing other nutrients.
